Welcome to Cabins at the Domain - Tranquility in Nature
This beautiful property, formerly the Domain of Killien, is under new ownership and is part of the Thurston Wildlife and Forest Reserve, a family owned venture dedicated to protecting the environment and nature. The Reserve includes rental cabins on Drag Lake with clear velvety water for swimming, canoeing and kayaking, as well as access to walking trails through some 4,500 acres of pristine forest, private lakes, rivers and streams, awe inspiring rock faces and sandy beaches. It is open from mid May till the end of October.
In 13th century Brittany, a family established a tradition of managing and protecting the wild nature of their domain of land. Seven hundred years later, on a visit to Canada, a descendant of this family, Count Edouard de Moustier, and his wife, Countess Agnes de Moustier, were thrilled to discover another land of enchanting forests - the Haliburton Highlands. Charmed by its untamed beauty, the family acquired the estate which included 5000 acres of wild forests and lakes. Over the years, they renovated and converted the existing lodge and cabins into a year-round north country inn called the Domain of Killien. They ran the domain lovingly for over 25 years with their two sons. The new owner has the same philosophy towards protecting the natural beauty of this glorious land. My name is Lynn Feagan, your host and proud owner of Cabins at the Domain. I hope you treasure this realm of calm and peace as much as I do. I look forward to meeting you. During your visit, I will be available to ensure you have an enjoyable stay.
